The vision of the Massage in Schools Programme is
...'that every child attending school experiences positive and nurturing touch every day...every where in the world'.
The mission of the Massage in Schools programme is;
..to provide high quality and professional training to all teachers and caring adults willing to bring nurturing touch into schools.
WHAT IS MASSAGE IN SCHOOLS? (MISP)
Massage in Schools (MISP) is an international programme developed by Mia Elmsater from Canada and Sylvie Hetu from Quebec.
The programme enables you to introduce peer massage into a school setting and is designed to be used with 4 -12 year olds.
The massage programme consists of 15 massage strokes which the children learn to do on each others back, through their clothes. Adults do not massage the children, this is a programme for peer massage only.
The daily routine of 15 strokes takes about 6 minutes and is taught through stories, songs and games.
At the programme's core is the concept of respect and all children have to ask each other's permission every time they wish to give or receive a masssage. The children always have a choice to say yes or no.
